I’ve been around a lot of Christians and one thing is for certain, none of us are worry-free. Yes, some are better at hiding them than others, but I haven’t met one person who doesn’t have something that is chewing away at their thought life. In fact, the longer I’m a Christian, the more I realize that 99% of people, deep down, have some deep hurts and worries.
On the other hand, I don’t know a lot of Christians who will admit they worry. I’ve even heard some of them apologize for using the word “worry”, and then quickly change to use another word instead. This is one of my least favourite times when Christianeze takes over a conversation. [We’ll address Christianese tomorrow]
“I’m really worried about… Oh, sorry, not worried… I mean I’m really concerned, troubled in my spirit, vexed, disquieted in my heart, about this growth on my toe.”
Seriously?
I stumbled across a great teaching by Andy Stanley called “Why Worry?” where he explains that our worries are “tied to the things we are most devoted to.” In other words, our worries gives us a clue about what we worship.
I’d like to you watch this whole series, but the part that really inspired me was his introduction in the first 3 minutes of the first video. Do yourself a favour and at least watch that.
